Jess Glynne has confessed she is a “bad rock’n’roller” and would rather have a glass of water than an alcoholic drink after a show.

The singer from Muswell Hill, entered the limelight after providing the vocals for Clean Bandit’s Rather Be, which won a Grammy and became the most streamed song of 2014.

But she insists she will not be tempted by the excesses of fame thanks to her health-conscious parents. Glynne, 25, told the Standard: “My dad is obsessed with fitness to this day. He goes to the gym every single day. He goes at stupid o’clock in the morning as well. And he’s 62.

“He’s amazing and super healthy. Since I was a kid he’s always wanted me to be an athlete, he wanted me to be in the Arsenal football team. I’ve grown up loving all kinds of sports — I was on the football team, netball team, basketball team, all of that — I’ve always tried to maintain that kind of fitness.”

Glynne, who was speaking as she launched a workout for Londoners with fitness studio 1Rebel and glacéau smartwater, has to be cautious after having surgery on her vocal cords in June. She added: “I’m such a bad rock’n’roller. I would choose water over an alcoholic drink. Drinking for me affects my voice so much. I’ve been through a lot with my voice and I worry a lot about it ... I’ll finish a gig, I’ll get my steamer, put my pyjamas on and drink loads of water.”

Glynne will release her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, this month.
