Miley Cyrus has revealed she will accept Donald Trump as President when he takes over in January, despite previously vowing to leave the country if he beat Hillary Clinton.

Cyrus, 23, made her feelings for Trump clear in an emotional video message to her fans after he won the race for the White House.

Referring to the Rolling Stones' song You Can't Always Get What You Want – which Trump used to play out his victory speech – Cyrus said: “Happy hippies, we adjust and we accept everyone for who they are. And so Donald Trump, I accept you.

“And this hurts to say, but I even accept you as the President of the United States, and that's fine, that's fine because I think now I want to be a hopeful hippie.”

Fighting back tears, she pleaded with the business tycoon to treat his people with respect, saying: “But please just treat people with love and treat people with compassion and treat people with respect and I will do the same for you.

She added: “Anything you want to talk about or understand, please if you want to open your mind and your heart I would love to give you a key.”

Cyrus also declared her love for Clinton and was overcome with emotion as she praised the Democrat candidate for devoting her life to making America a better place.

“I've been very vocal for my support for everyone besides Donald Trump,” she said. “Heavily supported Bernie. Heavily supported Hillary.

“And I still think that in her lifetime she deserves to be the first female president. That's what makes me so sad because I just wish that she had that opportunity, because she’s fought for so long and because I believe her when she says that she loves this country.

“This is all she's ever done. She's given her life to make it better."

Her comments come weeks after she warned that she would be "moving if this is my president!" Ensuring she made herself clear she added: "I don't say things I don't mean!"

Amy Schumer joked that she would move to Spain, Bryan Cranston and Lena Dunham pledged to move to Canada while Chelsea Handler revealed she had already purchased a house in another country in case Trump was elected.

Trump defied the odds to become President and was congratulated by Clinton via a phone call on Wednesday morning.

He will begin his tenure as President, with Mike Pence as his Vice, after his inauguration in January.
