Jamie Laing has been forced to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing due to injury, it has been confirmed.

Earlier this week, the Made In Chelsea star, 30, was seen hobbling on crutches after suffering a fall during the launch show filming and on Thursday afternoon, it was confirmed that he will no longer be taking part in the upcoming series.

A statement from the BBC explains that he will still feature in this Saturday's launch show, which has already been filmed.

Executive producer Sarah James added: "We are so sad that Jamie won't be able to take part in the series, he had already lit up the ballroom during the launch show with his boundless energy and enthusiasm.

The tweet which accompanied the news added: "We're going to miss you @JamieLaing_UK."

Laing said: “I’m absolutely devastated that I’m unable to continue in the competition, I was so excited to hit the dance floor! I would like to wish the lovely couples all the very best and hope they enjoy their time on the show to the fullest.”

In an Instagram video shared shortly after the initial announcement, Laing described the news as "really upsetting and devastating," telling fans: "When life throws you a curveball you've got to knock it out of the park."

He added: "I will be supporting every single one of my buddies who will be dancing this year.

"To all of you, the people who are dancing this year, the people who I love, go and smash it and make us all proud - I know you all will."

It is unclear whether Laing will be replaced on the show.

The BBC has stated that further information will be released in due course.

Laing's injury occurred during filming last Friday and reports claimed he damaged a tendon in his right foot.

A source told the Sun on Monday: "It's touch and go for Jamie and bosses are waiting to see how his results look after he gets a proper X-ray done.

"Producers are hoping he's just landed awkwardly during the group dance and tweaked something rather than it being a more serious injury.
