David Walliams has defended Amanda Holden from criticism over her Britain’s Got Talent semi-final outfits – although he couldn’t resist a cheeky quip.

Walliams, who sits alongside Holden, Alesha Dixon and Simon Cowell on the panel, joined Heart Breakfast as a guest on Holden’s first ever show.

Attention soon turned to the level of controversy and sometimes criticism Holden attracts with her outfits, often being branded “inappropriate for a family show” with viewers logging complaints to Ofcom.

But Walliams was among those to defend Holden’s dress sense and said it was a case of people “liking complaining about something” – although he couldn’t resist making a crude joke about Holden.

“I think she looks beautiful every time. I think people like having something to complain about,” Walliams said.

“I think there’s bigger things going on in the world, in fact there’s bigger breasts out there as well.”

The comedian added that he “doesn’t get” the controversy, saying: “There’s always someone that’s unhappy about something in this modern age isn’t there?”

Holden herself has spoken out about the backlash over her dresses, specifically relating to her “spider web” dress on Wednesday’s semi-final.

“My t*** seem to become the show’s biggest talking point every year,” she told The Sun. “We’ve had plenty of complaints apparently, but none from home, let me tell you.”

She defended the choices, pointing out that this year may be her “most demure ever” as she opted to wear nipple covers for the first time.

She added: “I was thinking that it’s a family show and people talk about my boobs every year, so I thought I would wear a nipple cover. I’d now happily put it on eBay.”
