Situation Hurn Court is situated on the western periphery of the Avon Valley, north of the River Stour. The A338 lies approximately 1 mile east of the Estate and connects with the market town of Ringwood in the north. There is a mainline railway station at Bournemouth with trains to London/Waterloo (journey time approximately 1 hour 45 minutes). To the north of the property lies Bournemouth International Airport.

Description According to Nikolaus Pevsner's book, The Buildings of England, Hurn Court was built in the Elizabethan era on a site previously occupied by a monastic dwelling associated with Christchurch Priory. Nearby there is the remains of an early ice house associated with the monastic settlement. The land came into the ownership of the Earls of Malmsbury in the 1700's, who created what was then referred to as Heron Court as their country seat. The property has had long association with many notable figures, in particular the composer George Frederick Handel, Lord Nelson, the author Henry Fielding (later a Lord of Admiralty and Treasury) and the famed Edwardian 'hostess' Lily Langtry!

* The surrounding farmland served by the River Stour is retained to this day by the Malmsbury Estate who some years ago sold the re-named Hurn Court and it became the Hurn Court School. Following the closure of the school, the property was acquired by a developer who divided the principal house to form eight individual units with separately metered services.

* Birdcage Walk is a ground floor apartment formed from the original Ladies Apartment, the Masters Apartment and two of the three bedrooms, linked by a spectacular vestibule which in its heyday was renowned for its collection of taxidermy (in particular birds), hence the name Birdcage Walk, which now provides a beautiful rib vaulted dining hall with heraldic gilded armorials bearing the insignia associated with the Earls of Malmsbury. The drawing room, with its feature marble chimney piece and exceptional gothic rococo plaster work, has a full height wide seating bay with original shuttered casements overlooking the grounds.

* The dining hall and study area feature a beautiful fan vaulted ribbed ceiling with ornate plaster work and casement doors with traditional gothic tracery opening onto a sheltered seating terrace with views over the communal grounds onto the Estate farmland beyond. Entry to the Estate is via the North and South Lodges with security coded electronic gates, making the complex an ideal proposition for those seeking privacy and seclusion.
