Sitting room | Study | Kitchen/breakfast room | 3 bedrooms | Bathroom | Gardens | Garage | About ¾ acre
Dowle Street Cottage is an outstanding example of a late medieval hall house. Formerly a Yeoman labourer's cottage on the nearby Dering Estate, the house was divided into three and occupied by labourers from the estate. It was only shortly after the Second World War that the house was restored and put back to one as seen today, and is referred to in a number of authoritative books such as Pevsner's Buildings of England and Quiney's Kent Houses. The interior boasts a wealth of period features including exposed crown posts and superb timber framing throughout.
Set in wonderful gardens that have been landscaped over the last four decades, Dowle Street Cottage offers the purchaser a superb opportunity to acquire a fine example of Kentish architecture.
A wide front door leads into a passageway that runs from front to rear. The main reception room has a magnificent brick inglenook fireplace. From this room a door leads into a small vestibule, off which are a study and a cloakroom. On the other side of the hall is a kitchen/breakfast room with a range of fitted units at one end. Stairs from the hall lead to the first floor landing - a wide, open space with a magnificent feature brick chimney exposed to the full height of the roof. The master bedroom has magnificent timber framing and part exposed crown posts. A door leads directly into the second bedroom. At the other end of the house off the landing is a large third bedroom with a walk-in cupboard; the bathroom is approached off the landing.

The gardens are a magnificent feature of the property, with a lovely natural pond in the front garden surrounded by varieties of flowering trees and shrubs. The rear garden is laid out as a series of 'rooms' with beautiful old-fashioned varieties of flowering and herbaceous shrubs and roses.
