The posh money heads to Fulham

Kensington and Chelsea's posh money is finding its way to Fulham, where a fresh wave of riverside developments is attracting buyers cashing in and searching for better value but "the right" postcode. Fulham Riverside, between leafy, polo-playing Hurlingham Park and the sought-after Peterborough Estate, fits the bill. This is where 463 new homes are being built around a new piazza and boulevard leading to the river. Prices from £500,000. Call Barratt (020 8326 7272).

Fulham Reach is a new 744-home scheme between Putney Bridge and Hammersmith Bridge, a remarkably tranquil section of the river popular with scullers and oarsmen — but once a no-go area for house builders.

Now developer St George has created a new riverside promenade and park. A boat club and jetty are also part of the scheme. Apartment blocks have expanses of glass and big balconies to make the most of the river outlook. Residents have exclusive use of a spa, screening room and wine cellar as well as a 24-hour concierge.

River Café, the lauded restaurant where Jamie Oliver cut his teeth, is housed in an adjacent wharf. Prices from £784,950. Call 020 7870 9500.

New homes in the Square Mile

Sitting alongside the Square Mile's ancient walls, the patch around Worship Street is as "City fringe" as you can get. For generations it was a low-key, nine-to-five commercial district but now it is in transition, re-energised by new forms of commerce and the Clerkenwell-Shoreditch creative hub on its doorstep.

Number 34 Worship Street used to be part of the London Stock Exchange. Redeveloped into a modern seven-storey office block, the building has eight one- and two-bedroom apartments spanning the top three floors. They tick all the designer boxes with understated interiors, Bulthaup kitchens, air-conditioning, marble bathrooms and Lutron mood lighting. There is underground parking and a storage room for every flat. Prices range from £635,000 to £1.17 million.

London's top loft-style apartments

Hot on the heels of London Fashion Week, developers are seizing the opportunity to promote loft-style homes and live-work spaces for creative types.

In Victorian times, Henry Heath was one of London's best known milliners and customers used to visit his shop via the stately Beaver Building on Oxford Street. The workshops, to the rear, have been renamed The Hat Factory and converted into eight warehouse-style flats with original features. The apartments include a fabulous 2,642 sq ft penthouse with open-plan interior and vaulted ceiling. Prices start from £1.5 million.

At Leonard Street EC1, a residential scheme of 42 apartments has been launched by London Square. A double-height entrance reception with exposed concrete and polished plaster walls sets the contemporary tone of the flats, above-average in size, with open-plan interiors and full-height bamboo veneered doors. Prices are from £590,000.

Liberal Democrats' former HQ up for sale

The Liberal Democrats' former HQ is up for sale, with planning permission for conversion back to a single residence — creating an impressive 11,321sq ft Westminster mansion.

The Georgian gem in Cowley Street, close to Smith Square, is one of the capital's most significant buildings, with an exceptional seven-window frontage extending to 52 feet. The guide price of £11 million puts it well within the Lib-Dem's once-flagship mansion tax range.
