Olympics: ‘Rent our house for “24,000 a week’

Jane and Brian Sullivan say they have already had enquiries from a Russian Games team looking for a base next July and August, despite seven-bedroom Hamilton House having no views of the Olympic Stadium.

Once owned by the Twinings tea family, the listed Georgian house had become a run-down hotel by 1999 when the couple bought it for £750,000. They say they have since completely renovated the place, which is a six-minute stroll from Greenwich Park, the venue for Olympic equestrian events.

For the hefty rent, tenants get a large walled garden in which to entertain, a dining table that seats 20, seven en-suite bedrooms, a catering-size kitchen, a resident housekeeper and a Bosendorfer grand piano for cosy evenings in the music room.

Ken Deamer of agents Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “Short-term lets near big sporting events see rents rise by as much as four times the normal rate. But this is the Olympics. We have already had interest in the Sullivans’ home from the Russian Boxing Federation.”
