Kennedy romance moves Swift-ly for trophy-home buyer Taylor

Country-pop superstar Taylor Swift has not only nabbed a Kennedy as a boyfriend, she’s about to move in next door to the clan’s famous Massachusetts home.

Swift, 21, who is dating Robert F Kennedy Jr’s son, Conor, has paid £3.1 million for a seven-bedroom beachside home that is part of the “Kennedy compound” at Cape Cod. Next door is the so-called summer White House, which was President John F Kennedy’s glamorous retreat.

And it seems the You Belong With Me singer knows how to bag a bargain. She snapped up the house for nearly £6  million less than the original asking price.

Imagine what Lennon bought for £20,000

Beatlemania is back. John Lennon’s song Imagine took a starring role at the Olympics closing ceremony, while next month Let It Be, a musical based on the Fab Four’s story, opens in the West End.

Now Kenwood, the late ex-Beatle’s former home in the private St George’s Hill Estate in Weybridge, is on the market at £15 million.

Lennon bought the six-bedroom house in 1964 for £20,000 and lived there with his first wife, Cynthia, until 1968. It is where much of the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album was penned and was still Lennon’s home when he met Yoko Ono. Call Knight Frank on 020 7629 8171.

Best place to remember soccer genius George Best

George Best’s childhood home has opened as holiday rental accommodation. Fans of the much-loved and troubled late footballer can now stay in the three-bedroom terrace house in east Belfast for £125 a night.

It was in the Best family for 60 years and the back garden was where the young prodigy kicked his first football. The property was recently sold to a not-for-profit regeneration organisation for £100,000 in a bid to attract visitors to the area.

With family photographs on the walls and a bedroom decorated the way it would have been when the 15-year-old George left to join Manchester United, it is no ordinary retreat but a must-stay destination for dedicated fans, of him and of the club.

Hum The Dambusters March all day long at the former home of bouncing bomb inventor Sir Barnes Neville Wallis, whose Second World War engineering genius was immortalised in the 1955 movie with Eric Coates’s memorable theme tune.
