Out of the Tardis… to live out of her suitcase

Now that she has filmed her final Doctor Who scenes as Amy Pond, Karen Gillan has become a bit of a nomad.

The Scottish actress who played The Doctor’s sidekick has moved out of her base in Cardiff, where the majority of the cult sci-fi series is filmed by the BBC, but has yet to find a permanent new home.

In the meantime all her belongings have been put into storage until she has time to hunt for a pad in London.

The former model is never likely to find herself entirely homeless, however — she can always rely on her mum to provide her with a welcome at the family home in Inverness — this despite Amy’s claim that the house where she grew up is haunted.

Until then, London’s hotel industry is ensuring Amy never goes without a roof over her head in the capital.

The 24-year-old recently spent time in Cannes to promote her feature film debut. She stars in Not Another Happy Ending, directed by John McKay, about an authoress who finds she’s suffering from writer’s block — because she is “too happy” to be creative.

Celine sells her island château

Celine Dion is selling her extravagant Normandy-style château on a private Canadian island. The My Heart Will Go On singer has listed the sale with Sotheby’s International Realty for £18.6million.

The six-bedroom home has three living rooms, double master suites and a library. Entertaining is important to the star and her husband/manager Rene Angelil so they have created a games room, wine cellar and tasting room. Included in the sale are Dion’s Persian rugs, linens, china and antiques.

The couple are selling as they now spend most of their time in America.

Love, love me do – and buy iconic Air Studios

Air Studios, perhaps the pop industry’s most iconic building, is for sale. Established in 1969 by pioneering record producer Sir George Martin, it was originally based in Oxford Street and moved to its current location, a converted Victorian church in Hampstead, in 1992. Martin, famed for his extensive work on a string of Beatles albums, sold the recording hub to entrepreneur Richard Boote six years ago.

Paul McCartney, George Michael and Chris Martin’s Coldplay are just some of the high-profile singers who have recorded there.

Air Studios is also a popular choice for film score recordings — soundtracks for The Hunger Games and Dark Shadows were recently created there.

“The studios would benefit longer term from having an owner who will continue the great recording heritage, and who keeps it on a par with Abbey Road,” says Boote, who also owns Shoreditch’s Strongroom Bar & Kitchen.

Home of Holmes safe

The Surrey mansion designed by Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who lived there from 1897 to 1907 while completing 13 Holmes tales, has been saved from redevelopment. Author and Conan Doyle scholar John Gibson successfully challenged Waverley borough council in the High Court after it allowed a plan to split Undershaw in Hindhead into eight homes.

Gibson set up the Save Undershaw campaign group, gathering support from such luminaries as Stephen Fry. Benedict Cumberbatch’s recent TV portrayal of Holmes has given the fictional detective a new generation of fans.
