Property search
Selling just gets harder
As buyers are harder to come by these days it is not good news that sellers are having to wait longer for their local authority searches — vital information needed for completion of their Home Information Packs (HIPs), writes Mira Bar-Hillel
On average it is taking 24 days more for the search to arrive — depending on your postcode. The worst offending council is Hillingdon, which takes an average 44 days to return a search, with no reasonable explanation.
At the other end of the scale, Harrow takes just two-and-a-half days to return search data, proving that it can done quickly.
The average time across London is 6.83 days.
One of these companies, One Search Direct, which handles 40 per cent of the search market, says that councils are being unnecessarily restrictive, and in some instances even deliberately obstructive, towards private search companies.
