Cheaper home insurance

Home insurance premiums have risen 10 per cent in a year, so it’s more important than ever to shop around when renewing policies.Where do I start? collectively, the main comparison websites check about three quarters of all insurers and brokers but also check Aviva and Direct Line as they don’t feature on comparison websites.
Increasing your policy excess (the amount of a claim that isn’t covered) often cuts premiums, while having an approved burglar alarm, window locks or being in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme also leads to discounts. It may also be cheaper to take out contents and buildings cover separately.
What about cashbacks? Once you’ve found the cheapest insurers for your property, check cashback services such as Topcashback.co.uk and Quidco.com to see if additional rebates are available for buying your policy through these websites. The cashbacks can be up to about £70, sometimes more than the cost of the policy.
Can I haggle? If you get a cheaper quote online, call your existing insurer and tell them. They will often match the online rate, saving you the hassle of changing insurer.
