Fernando Llorente has issued a rallying call to his Tottenham team-mates ahead of this week's Champions League semi-final clash with Ajax.

Spurs head into that first-leg tie on the back of a second defeat in three Premier League games in a London derby against West Ham at the weekend.

Such a loss - sealed by Michail Antonio's impressive second-half strike - ended Tottenham's 100% record at their new stadium, where they host Dutch giants Ajax on Tuesday evening.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino suggested that his players were suffering from stress and fatigue after their eighth match in April, while Llorente believes such a sharp wake-up call may be just what they need in order to avoid a damaging loss to one of Europe's most vibrant and dynamic attacking sides.

Ajax currently sit top of the Eredivisie table on goal difference ahead of PSV Eindhoven, have won each of their last four matches across all competitions and eliminated both holders Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus from Champions League contention.

“Maybe it’s better, no?” Llorente said in response to the West Ham loss.

“It’s right, we need everyone to wake up because if we play like this on Tuesday we will lose, easy.”

With Harry Kane still sidelined due to an ankle injury and Heung-min Son suspended, Llorente - introduced from the bench against the Hammers - could lead the line for Tottenham in the first leg against Ajax.

It was the Spanish striker's controversial effort in the thrilling quarter-final second-leg loss to Manchester City that secured Spurs' place in the last four on away goals.
