Watford 2-1 Tottenham LIVE! Preseason friendly score, result and match stream today

Matt Davies5 September 2020

Tottenham finished their pre-season with a disappointing 2-1 defeat to recently-relegated Championship side Watford.

With just eight days until Jose Mourinho begins his first full campaign at Tottenham at home to Everton, goals from Andre Gray and Domingo Quina gave Watford a half-time lead, with a late Heung-min Son penalty not enough to avoid a first pre-season defeat.

How to watch

TV channel: The match is not being shown on UK TV.

Ndombele starts!

There may be a number of players away on international duty, but Mourinho has put out a very, very strong team out against Watford!

The eyes are instantly drawn to Tanguy Ndombele, who gets his first minutes of pre-season.

As does Davinson Sanchez, who is joined by Serge Aurier, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Denis Cirkin.

Interestingly, it's Joe Hart who's once again prefered to Paulo Gazzaniga in goal.

Finally, it's a fearsome front four of Lamela, Lucas, Alli and Son.

Will Joe Hart start from the off once more?

After making cameos against both Ipswich and Reading, Joe Hart was handed his first start in a Spurs shirt against Birmingham.

Another start would perhaps provide an indication of who Jose Mourinho considers his number two behind Hugo Lloris.

A number of players away on international duty

Though just a week until the Premier League starts, Spurs will have to balance experience with youth against Watford with a number of players away on international duty.

Jose Mourinho will therefore look to provide a good mix of youth and first-team starts, with the likes of Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, Joe Hart available.

There has been ample opportunity to shine for Harvey White, Jack Clarke and Denis Cirkin throughout pre-season, with the latter expected to start today.

The story of pre-season so far

Tottenham's match against Watford today will be their fourth of pre-season after a quick turn-around following the 2019/20 Premier League conclusion.

Jose Mourinho's side have a 100 per cent record so far, having beaten Ipswich, Reading and Birmingham with an aggregate score of 8-1.

Spurs kicked off their pre-season with a 3-0 win over Ipswich thanks to two goals from Heung-min Son and one from Ryan Sessegnon.

A 4-1 win against Reading followed as Son was joined on the scoresheet by Dele Alli and Erik Lamela.

A last-gasp Steven Bergwijn stunner sealed a hard-fought win over Birmingham last time out.
