Wolves 1-3 Manchester City LIVE! Premier League result, latest news and reaction after Molineux clash

Pep Guardiola's side begin their Premier League campaign with win at Molineux
1/25

Pep Guardiola's side began their 2020-21 Premier League campaign with a victory at Molineux on Monday night.

Summer signings Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres were both involved as City began the new season on a winning note after failing to defend their title last term.

The visitors dominated the first half as goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden gave them a deserved 2-0 lead at the interval.

Wolves improved significantly after the break and looked to set up a nervy ending thanks to Raul Jimenez's header, but Gabriel Jesus made sure of victory deep into second-half stoppage time.

Wolves will of course be beginning life without star forward Diogo Jota, who competed his move to Liverpool last week.

In truth though, Nuno Espirito Santo had already started to favour Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto this season.

Aguero still missing for City

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will miss the start of the season after failing to recover from a knee injury.

The Argentinian is yet to take part in full training since breaking down in June and has been ruled out of Man City’s opening game against Wolves.

Pep Guardiola had hoped Aguero would be able to take part in the Champions League closing stages last month, but his recovery has taken longer than club medics expected.

City’s manager said: “He still hasn’t had one training session with us.”

It means Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus is set to lead City’s attack as Guardiola’s only like-for-like back up.

"Ilkay is now observing a 10-day period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

"Everyone at the club wishes Ilkay a speedy recovery."

The Germany international becomes the third City player to return a positive test in recent weeks, with Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte also forced to self-isolate earlier this month.
