Since it opened as Westminster Town Hall in 1883, many esteemed visitors have walked through the doors of Caxton Hall.
The Women’s Social and Political Union, part of the Suffragette movement, held a Women’s Parliament there at the beginning of each parliamentary session from 1907, while the government staged press conferences there during the Second World War.
It hit the headlines again as a popular postwar register office with high society types and celebrities. Elizabeth Taylor, Roger Moore, Diana Dors, Peter Sellers, Orson Welles, Joan Collins, George Harrison and Ringo Starr are among stars to have married at the Grade II-listed building.
