Homes gossip: the home featured in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is for sale
In John le Carré’s Cold War espionage story, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, central character George Smiley lives at number 9 Bywater Street in Chelsea.
My property moles tell me that the three-bedroom house at the address is on the market with Strutt & Parker for £3.25 million. The pretty, four-storey home, below, is a stone’s throw from the shops, cafés and restaurants of King’s Road.
The neighbouring house was a filming location for the novel’s award-winning 1979 BBC TV adaptation starring the late Sir Alec Guinness.
Fans should also investigate the Barbican’s latest cinema event, the John le Carré Adaptations series. It opens with The Spy Who Came in from the Cold on Saturday and closes on September 28 with the hit 2011 adaptation of Tinker Tailor Solder Spy, with Oscar-nominated Gary Oldman as Smiley.
