New flats in Croydon for first-time buyers:thousands of new homes with fast commutes planned for London's 'third city'

Thanks to a £750 million cultural investment, Croydon is fast making it's mark. With many more first-time buyers choosing to settle here, demand is soaring for new flats that come with so-called “lifestyle extras”, such as concierge, gym and on-site cafés.

Cranes fill the skyline in Croydon, which has a spring in its step with a bold town-centre revamp bringing 4,000 new homes and a £1.4billion Westfield shopping mall.

Also promised is a £750 million new cultural quarter, starting with refurbishment of Fairfield Halls and a new Boxpark performance space for 2,000 people next to the train station.

The local council is trumpeting Croydon as London’s “third city” — after the West End and Square Mile — a key business location on the edge of the capital, with 27 trains an hour into the centre. Journeys to London Bridge and Victoria take 15 and 17 minutes respectively.

Croydon is already an employment centre in its own right, with more than 50,000 people travelling to work there on a daily basis.

Now, with many more first-time buyers choosing to settle there, higher-quality residential buildings with so-called “lifestyle extras”, such as concierge, secure parking, gym, private cinema and on-site cafés, are coming on stream.

Morello in Cherry Orchard Road, is the latest development to be served up, with 297 flats in four interconnected buildings. Prices from £345,000. Call Redrow on 020 3305 7006.
