A 'Brexit' money-back guarantee: reservation fee for off-plan homes in Southwark to be refunded if buyers don't like the result of the 'in or out' vote

Nervous home buyers worried about the outcome of the Brexit vote are being offered a money-back guarantee should the June 23 referendum result cause economic jitters.

While many builders have put planned launches on the back burner until after the vote, developer Oakmayne is going for a novel approach for its sale of flats at Two Fifty One Southwark Bridge Road, a new Zone 1 skyscraper between Borough and Elephant & Castle due for completion in 2018.

Director David Humbles promises: “If they don’t like the result, whichever way it goes, they will have the right to withdraw and their reservation fee will be refunded in full.”

Would-be buyers are being invited to a special launch night next week at the Shard, where they can see a model of the new tower and use an interactive headset to “walk through” the flat of their choice to see the interior design and sample the views.

Oakmayne says prices are being trimmed for buyers who reserve on the night, while exchange of contracts will not be required until after the referendum, leaving them free to make a decision about whether to proceed.

The 41-storey skyscraper has 335 apartments with high-speed fibre-optics plus a “Get Connected” wi-fi-enabled business and homeworking lounge, a refectory-type space at the base of the building alongside a private cinema club, gym and other amenities.
