Amanda can recover in her new Cotswolds home

Congratulations to actress Amanda Holden who last week had a second daughter, Hollie Rose, a sister for Lexi, six. Following the difficult birth, Amanda’s retreat to a new Cotswolds home could not be more timely.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, who was on the road with Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams auditioning acts for this year’s series when she was rushed to hospital, recently bought a gorgeous thatched cottage in an Oxfordshire village.

The four-bedroom, 17th-century property, which cost £860,000, is surrounded by high-profile neighbours including David Cameron, Blur’s Alex James and Rebekah Brooks, but Amanda will be focused on resting and spending quality time at home with her music producer husband Chris Hughes and their daughters.

Set in half an acre of landscaped grounds, the house is a convenient drive away from the couple’s main home in Richmond.

Does Mel B wannabe back in Britain?

Could Mel B be moving back to the UK? The former Scary Spice Girl has put her Los Angeles home on the market for £2.2 million. The 8,200sq ft estate has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a gym, pool and home cinema, plus an outdoor living room and kitchen. And what pop star pad would be complete without a recording studio? Of course, it’s got that, too.

The singer-turned-reality show favourite has been living in the US for eight years and her director husband Stephen Belafonte is American. But maybe she would like her daughters — four-month-old Madison, Phoenix, 12, and Angel, four — to get in touch with their British roots. After all, variety is the spice of life.

Model Amy is down to earth

Model Amy Guy has fronted campaigns for a string of big brands — from Sony to Sweaty Betty. But how many people would associate the ex-Miss UK with architecture?

The gorgeous blonde, formerly the Sky1 Gladiator Siren, has her own design business, AG Design ( and is just putting the finishing touches to her first project — a three-bedroom house in East Finchley. It’s packed with eco-features and on the market for £650,000 through Hamptons (020 8883 5997).

For her next venture Amy is planning to build a hidden “earth house”, buried in the side of a hill in Surrey.

Grade II-listed Abbots Brow in Cumbria

Rooms with a view loved by artists

Turner’s painting of Kirkby Lonsdale Churchyard was sold by Bonhams last week for £217,000. But why not go one step further and buy a house that shares the very Cumbrian view the painter captured in watercolour?

Detached Grade II-listed Abbots Brow, on the market at £1.75 million with Carter Jonas, overlooks St Mary’s Church with a view of the Lune Valley that has enchanted many artists. Better known as Ruskin’s View (following the 19th-century art critic’s appreciation of it) it makes for a priceless setting.

The five-bedroom property has four further attic rooms as well as a one-bedroom self-contained annexe and a detached stone outbuilding known as the Old Weigh House.
