Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan has designed his dream home in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. The eco-friendly property is on Kauai island, where he recently donated £65,000 to the local Hanalei school attended by his sons Dylan and Paris.
“Hawaii is like Ireland with the heat on,” jokes the debonair, County Meath carpenter’s son. “I love the culture, the landscape, the blue, blue water. I paint and my wife [American former journalist Keely Shaye Smith] gardens. It’s a beautiful place in which to watch our boys grow up.”
The environmental campaigning couple first bought a Hawaian holiday home in 2005. They also own a state-of-the-art £6.5 million beachfront villa in Malibu, California, next to Cher and Mel Gibson.
If you fancy lazing beside the Caribbean in a six-bedroom villa, cosseted by a cook, maid and gardener, then Point Lookout proves that dreams can sometimes come true. For £9,700 a week you can rent Canadian rock star Bryan Adams’ Mediterranean-style Mustique villa.
With 15 different sandy beaches to choose from, you never know who you will find sunbathing beside you, from Prince William and Kate Middleton to Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott. Each villa, let through local Mustique Co, comes with its own “mule”, a hybrid beach buggy/golf cart.
Even the mighty name tag of JR Ewing (aka actor Larry Hagman) can’t guarantee the sale of a unique 18,000sq ft Californian mansion. Christie’s Great Estates has had to reduce the £7.13 million price of his mountain-top ranch near LA to a less awesome £6.16 million.
“It has the most breathtaking views and the weather is perfect,” drawls the septuagenarian Texan charmer. Special features includes one of America’s largest solar-power systems; an “open-living environment” with retractable glass walls; an indoor saltwater lap-pool and a private helicopter pad.
Hagman and Maj, his Swedish wife of 56 years, plan to move to the more buzzy Beverly Hills. It’s even rumoured that Warner Bros is negotiating to revive his cult Eighties TV drama Dallas.
Good news for former pop heart-throb Paul Young, whose six-bedroom Hadley Common house has just gone under offer at the £1.49 million asking price through agents Statons.
The detached Victorian bow-fronted house boasts such essential pop accessories as a pink master bedroom, swimming pool, gym, games room and double garage, plus wall-to-wall white carpets.
The Luton-born belter, a former member of the Q-Tips (whose first group was called Kat Kool & The Kool Kats) and famed for such hits as Wherever I Lay My Hat and Everytime You Go Away, has three children — Levi, Layla and Grady — from his marriage to former model Stacey Smith.
