This is about a boy buying a house

Actor Nicholas Hoult knows what he should buy himself for his 21st birthday this December: his first home. At the moment he lives with parents BA pilot Roger and Glenis Hoult in Wokingham, Berkshire.

“I’m going away to Australia now for just under a year to film the latest Mad Max film,” says Nicholas, who recently returned from helping a Christian Aid project in Kenya. “But after that I’ll think about getting my own place.”

Gangling Hoult’s career began aged 12 when he starred as a precocious schoolboy opposite Hugh Grant in Nick Hornby’s 2002 romcom About A Boy. This was followed by leads in C4’s teen drama Skins and Tom Ford’s A Single Man opposite Colin Firth. He has earned quite enough to place a hefty deposit on a Shoreditch loft apartment or Notting Hill duplex.

It’s lucky that supermodel-turned-singer Karen Elson isn’t superstitious. For she has discovered that her new antebellum home in Nashville, Tennessee, is haunted.

“There are probably a lot of ghosts, as during the American Civil War it served as a hospital for the wounded and dying,” the Oldham-born redhead reveals. “Nashville is a spooky place to live.”

In 2005 she married Detroit-born Jack White from rock duo The White Stripes, a month after she starred in his Blue Orchid video. Their two children, Scarlett and Henry, have grown used to his strange collection of stuffed zebra, gazelles and owls.

Two years ago, Girls Aloud star and reformed hellcat Sarah Harding bought a £1 million Buckinghamshire home near Princes Risborough to escape her party-till-dawn lifestyle. But now I discover that she has cannily kept her top-floor bachelor flat in Camden Town, just in case her on-off relationship with tattooed DJ Tom Crane breaks down again.

While the tiny Ascot-born musician’s daughter grows her own veg and dreams of keeping chickens and taking up show jumping she rents out her old pad near that showbiz haven The Hawley Arms.

Meanwhile she is recording tracks for her first solo release but will continue to work with the hugely successful Girls Aloud.

Fresh from covering the Spanish and Monaco grand prix, journalist Jane Nottage feels vindicated that her decision to use a feng shui master to sell her three-bedroom Putney home has paid off.

Shortly after he advised her on how to re-arrange her neo-Regency house to improve the energy flow she has sold it for £888,000 through Chesterton Humberts.

“The number eight is a magic number in feng shui, bringing good luck,” says the Reading accountant’s daughter, whose partner is former McLaren motor-racing supremo Tyler Alexander. She now plans to spend £390,000 on a one-bedroom riverside flat in Battersea.
