Liverpool 4-3 Leeds LIVE! Premier League result, latest news and reaction from Anfield

It's champions vs champions at Anfield!
1/24

Mo Salah's hat-trick helped Liverpool get their Premier League title defence off to a winning start in a thriller against newly-promoted Leeds United at Anfield.

Marcelo Bielsa's outfit were hugely impressive on their long-awaited top flight return and pegged the Reds back on three occasions, only for Salah's 88th minute penalty, conceded by Leeds' new record signing Rodrigo, to send them home with nothing.

Virgil Van Dijk was also on the scoresheet, but was well below his best, making a horrendous error to gift Patrick Bamford his first goal of the season, with Mateusz Klich and Jack Harrison also finding the net.

David Lynch is at Anfield, with Malik Ouzia running you through the action...

GOAL! | Liverpool 1-1 Leeds | Jack Harrison 12'

This one counts!

Leeds' first goal back in the top flight is an absolute cracker, made by a superb long ball from Kalvin Phillips and then finished after a terrific run from Jack Harrison. Rifled low past Alisson and Leeds are deservedly on terms.

9 mins: Goal disallowed!

Cracking response from Leeds, who keep the ball alive in the Liverpool box and it breaks to Helier Costa to roll home, only for the flag to be raised. Just off.

David Lynch is at Anfield

That should settle any new-season nerves for Liverpool, who in fairness had been giving their newly promoted opposition a preview of what they're up against this year from pretty much the first whistle.

As for Leeds, it's a nightmare start, particularly for summer signing Koch. He was, of course, signed as an alternative to Ben White, who starred for the Whites on loan in the Championship last term - form that attracted interest from today's hosts prior to Brighton tying their man down to a new deal.

GOAL! | Liverpool 1-0 Leeds | Mo Salah (p) 4'

Welcome back to the big time, Leeds. Mo Salah lashes straight down the middle and the champions lead.

4 mins: Penalty to Liverpool!

Not the start to his Leeds career that Robin Koch was looking for. The defender's arm is outstretched as Salah lets fly from range and though it takes a little nick on its way to him, which perhaps makes it a little harsh, Michael Oliver points to the spot.

3 mins: Decent early opening for Roberto Firmino as he's slipped in on the angle but he tries to square rather then beat Illan Meslier and the 'keeper thwarts him.

We are underway...

The teams are on their way out at an empty Anfield. Should be a cracker.

The Premier League season is already underway of course, with a couple of games played earlier on today.

Arsenal continued their good momentum under Mikel Arteta by thumping Fulham 3-0 in the early kick-off before Crystal Palace beat Southampton 1-0.
