This weekend could be the most auspicious time of the year to sell your home, according to estate agents. A survey by Carter Jonas has earmarked the middle Saturday in May as the best day to sell property.
“May 18 is midway between two Bank Holidays, before summer half term when the weather is kindest, with the grass looking lush and the wisteria in bloom,” explained Mark Charter, head of the firm’s Oxford office.
“The date fits in neatly with buyers looking to move during the summer holiday, given eight to 10 weeks from offer to completion. There are always ups and downs in the housing market’s calendar but for those who know that they want to sell and want their house and garden to be at their peak to attract the best price, our research shows that 18 May is the solution.”
Different agents, of course, hold different views about prime selling dates. Mark Wagstaff, of Mullucks Wells in Essex, says a follow up busy date is May 28,when the desperate buyer who found nothing during the May 18 pustch goes at it again.“A change of schools is a major factor in people moving house and they want to be in by the end of August, so if they haven’t found somewhere to go by the end of May panic sets in. If you’re a seller, there’s nothing better than buyers in a panic.”
