Diary of an estate agent: Soho

The letting team are gearing up for the summer market and colleagues celebrate a successful week in a beer garden...

Monday
After a relaxing weekend of golf in the sunshine, it’s back to business at the start of another full-on working week.

We begin the day with our weekly lettings team meeting, where we discuss some of our key projects. We are fast approaching the busiest time of the working year and after achieving 14 agreed deals last week, we’re gearing up for the summer market.

I catch up with emails and update my clients on the results of last week’s  viewings, before looking ahead to the three valuations in my diary today. I am off to Holborn this morning, while  the afternoon takes me to Soho and Covent Garden.

The Soho apartment is interesting, with lovely high ceilings, natural light and beautiful fittings. It is a real gem for anyone looking to rent in central London. The valuations go really well and two out of the three landlords are happy to go ahead and instruct me on the spot.

Tuesday
The day starts on a high for me. I receive an email from a landlord I met last week, who has just bought three units in a new development in City Road, telling me that he would like me to market the apartments for him.

I am straight on the phone to various members of CBRE to kick off the marketing, aiming to get suitable tenants as soon as possible.

My first appointment this afternoon is a valuation at a stunning split-level penthouse overlooking Covent Garden Piazza.

It’s the sort of property most of us could only dream of calling home. The client is currently unsure whether to rent it out or sell it, and is still weighing his options. However, I have a client who is currently looking to rent in the area and this spot would be absolutely perfect for him.

Wednesday
With five valuations today, it’s non-stop action. I cover a huge amount of ground throughout the day at properties in Soho, Covent Garden, Mayfair and Bloomsbury, and I’m glad I wore my comfortable shoes for all the hours spent racing around town.

By the end of the day three landlords have signed up. I celebrate a successful stint over a pint in the sun with a couple of colleagues at The Porterhouse, a favourite open-air spot of ours in  Covent Garden.

Thursday
I have a lot to catch up on today, ensuring that anything currently under offer is progressing smoothly. This afternoon we have a meeting with the branch managers to discuss the business’s current expansion project.

Our patch in London is focused in Covent Garden, Soho and the West End but we’re now looking further afield to Clerkenwell, Farringdon and King’s Cross.

Friday
It’s off to Fitzrovia to value a fantastic two-bedroom flat in a new development just a few minutes from Oxford Circus that’s probably the best equipped I’ve seen.

Residents have access to a communal lounge, gym, sauna, swimming pool and cinema room. The landlord is happy to sign our terms and conditions immediately so I head back to the office, where I hear that an offer’s come in on one of my Wednesday properties — the landlord cannot believe it.

We agree the offer, and so, with another happy customer at the end of another successful week, this calls for a team celebration at the pub.
