Chelsea have confirmed the signing of French defender Malang Sarr.

The 21-year-old left Ligue 1 side Nice club this summer following the end of his contract there and has now signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

He will spend the 2020/21 season out on loan, the club have confirmed.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: "The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss. He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea.

"We are very happy to welcome him to the club today."

Sarr becomes the latest addition in west London in an increasingly busy transfer window for the Blues.

Frank Lampard has three first-team additions with Ben Chilwell joining Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech at the club on Wednesday.

Chelsea have also signed up 18-year-old Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona, with Brazil captain Thiago Silva expected to sign to add some much needed experience to Frank Lampard's backline.

The club are also confident of wrapping up a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.
