Households and landlords looking to save money on white goods and home appliances may be able to find bargains on retailers’ clearance websites.

Clearance-Comet.co.uk and Tesco Outlet (stores.ebay.co.uk/Tesco-Outlet) offer new and reconditioned items at hundreds of pounds off standard prices.

Argos also lists clearance stock (argos.co.uk/static/Argos Clearance), while UltimateGraded Appliances.co.uk sells Indesit and Hotpoint appliances at “huge discounts”. Argos offers savings on clearance items of up to about 50 per cent. Comet Clearance uses auctions and many of the bids are about half the store price. In some cases there is a “buy now” option with a third off.

Recent Tesco Outlet offers included a 32in Panasonic flat-screen TV for £320, compared with a standard price of £430. All appliances are sold in fully working order. As well as discontinued lines, they may be ex-display, returns or reconditioned.

Comet guarantees goods from its clearance site for six months. Tesco Outlet gives a 12-month warranty, as does Ultimate Graded Appliances.
