Camden Courtyards: NW1's new homes offer canalside living and communal rooftop terraces

Camden Courtyards is a new development in the canalside regeneration that has brought bars, cafés and a Eurostar terminal that puts Paris less than two hours away.
From £620,000: the innovative S-shaped building has two internal courtyards for residents, who also have access to communal roof terraces.

There is more to Camden than its colourful street market. The wider area was attracting architects and design firms long before the rise of Clerkenwell and Shoreditch, and after a few years out of the spotlight, Camden is on the up again.

Regent’s Canal and its linked industry used to be a negative for Camden, as was the area’s proximity to King’s Cross, but both the waterways and train lines have become positives.

Canalside regeneration has brought bars, cafés and smart apartments, while the Eurostar terminal has put Paris less than two hours away.

The latest new homes in London

1/20

Camden Courtyards is the latest transformation of industrial land. The former optical works will become 164 homes, half of them “affordable” through housing association Newlon.

Clad in patterned brick and with a striking rusty Corten steel two-storey roof extension, the architecture picks up on the site’s factory heritage.

The innovative S-shaped building allows for two internal courtyards for residents, who also have access to communal roof terraces.
