Shoreditch's new digital homes near Tech City:Wi-Fi enabled flats and communal spaces make remote working easy

Many developers are now building schemes with built in wi-fi and the communal spaces that surround them.

For most young Londoners wi-fi is as important as hot water. Developers are responding to the needs of the internet generation by providing digital connectivity in new homes and the communal spaces that surround them, allowing residents to work remotely inside and outside.

At 250 City Road, a new quarter of 933 homes, a hotel, offices and shops just 10 minutes’ walk from Shoreditch’s Tech City, there are two acres of wi-fi-enabled landscaped grounds plus a podium business lounge with work benches and a private screening room for presentations.

Designed by architect Foster + Partners, the development’s two towers are set at an angle to maximise views of London landmarks, from Wembley Arch to the Gherkin, and are subtly lit internally.

The scheme also boasts a rooftop gym and sky garden, indoor pool and spa and 24-hour concierge. Flats come with winter gardens and prices range from £850,000 to £3.1 million. Call 020 3040 6250.

Two Fifty One Southwark Bridge Road is another digital scheme. Near Borough Market, this 41-storey tower has 335 flats and high-speed fibre optics plus a “Get Connected” wi-fi-enabled business and homeworking lounge — a relaxed refectorytype space at the base of the building alongside a private cinema, club room, gym and café.

Prices start at £655,000. Call 020 3468 9251.
