New Zone 2 flats in Rotherhithe Peninsula

Waterside homes at Tavern Quay are a handy halfway point on the Jubilee line between Canary Wharf and the West End.

Rotherhithe Peninsula is establishing itself as a worthwhile and affordable Zone 2 address, a handy halfway point on the Jubilee line between Canary Wharf and the West End.

The cobbled conservation area surrounding The Mayflower pub and St Mary’s Church, from where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail to North America in 1620, is a window on the district’s maritime heritage. In its heyday as Surrey Docks, the area consisted of various waterways and nine large docks, among them Greenland, Finland, Russia and Canada, denoting the origin of the cargo unloaded there.

Tavern Quay, above, a new apartment scheme, is located in Rope Street, which runs alongside South Dock. Due for completion from spring 2015, the 76 waterside homes are priced from £400,000. Call estate agent Gordon & Co on 020 7407 2790.
