New homes in London: St Marks Square

Bromley town centre is getting a makeover mixing residential, leisure, shopping and the arts.
Bromley, London’s largest borough, covers 59 square miles, most of which is green belt running into Kent and Surrey. Many of its villages and suburbs are connected by quick overland train links — less than 40 minutes — to Cannon Street and Charing Cross, making it popular commuter territory, not just for family buyers, but also for singles and couples searching for value-for-money homes beyond the grimy inner city.

Bromley town centre is getting a makeover that will add some much-needed sparkle to the suburban scene. St Mark’s Square, pictured, is being built on a former car park with the aim of creating a new hub mixing residential, leisure, shopping and the arts. The 200-home scheme is set around a new public square and performance space, a multiplex cinema, hotel, cafés and restaurants. Completion is due later this year.
