Raw, artistic and still resisting gentrification, Deptford has usurped Dalston as the capital’s hippest postcode. It has a creative vibe that ripples out from Goldsmiths college, a historic waterfront and a high street that is rapidly improving.
It also has enviably quick transport connections to central London and Docklands.
It’s a disjointed area, however, so the local council aims to unite the high street and railway station with the riverfront by providing pedestrian-friendly flows across Evelyn Street to Deptford Strand, site of Henry VIII’s royal Dockyard and for decades a strip of derelict wharves and factory sheds.

A new central street is being created and arches punched through for better access to the wider area.
