New cottage-style homes at White Sand in East Sussex

White Sand, a new development in Camber Sands, has been built to resemble a traditional fishing village.
Camber Sands, near the picturesque port of Rye in East Sussex, has been popular with Londoners since the Thirties. Its fabulous Blue Flag sandy beach attracts surfing and kite sports fans, and new Hollywood blockbuster The Monuments Men was filmed there.
Long trapped in a Sixties timewarp, the area is smartening up and pulling in a middle-class crowd. Trendy bars and restaurants are opening, and new developments are under way close to the beach. White Sand, a mix of flats and cottage-style houses, is built to resemble a traditional fishing village, and painted pink, grey and vibrant blue. From £164,995 for flats, and from £249,995 for houses.

Local agent Mulberry Cottages says the homes command rental yields of up to 11 per cent for the 28-week holiday season.
