Harry Kane says the strength of the current Tottenham squad will count for little if they fail to win a trophy.

Tottenham, who flirted with the Premier League title race for a short while, are back in Premier League action at Liverpool this weekend, looking to end a run of four League games without a win and try to open up a gap to fourth once again.

England captain Kane has two Premier League Golden Boots with Spurs, though they are without a trophy since winning the 2008 League Cup final.

Kane is desperate for this Tottenham side to have something to show for their magnificent progress under Mauricio Pochettino but has concerns that the financial strain placed on the club by their new £1billion stadium could cause problems.

"A lot of people say this is maybe the best team we've had, maybe the best team we'll ever have, and the best manager, but it's important we have something to show for it," Kane told ESPN.

"It's not just when we look back in 10 years, we had a great team. It's, 'Look what they did. Look what they won'.

"The challenge for us is, can we keep going up and up and up? It's going to be difficult in the next couple of years with the stadium and the finances."

He added: "We've done so much in a short space of time. Of course we want to go on to the next level, win the Premier League and win trophies."

Kane has, time and again, been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but has insisted that as long as Spurs continue to progress, he has no intentions of leaving.

"I've always said as long as the club is moving in the right direction and showing the right ambition, I want to be part of the journey," Kane added.

"Of course we want to go on to the next level and win the Premier League, and win trophies.

"But to consistently outperform these teams that have always been above us, it shows that we're in a good place."
