The Reader: Government must act and enter lockdown

PA

Never mind the lockdown exit plan — where’s the plan to begin going into a proper national lockdown? With so many cases being reported every single day, how bad does the death rate have to get before Boris Johnson’s Government will act?

The Tier system isn’t sufficient and is a lockdown in name only. For the most part, people are carrying on their daily business as usual: schools and businesses are still open. France, Germany and Ireland have gone into national lockdown. What’s the UK Government playing at? Or is this a sly trial of herd immunity via the backdoor.

Dear Dave

It seems the virus has managed to catch the Government on the hoof, again. It would help if Boris Johnson picked a side between his lockdown sceptics and believers. But if, as seems inevitable, we join our neighbours in lockdown, don’t expect it to be like last time: schools and shops in Germany are still open. And herd immunity is not sly, but the overall aim. That’s what a vaccine (if we get one) will help us achieve.

Twist in time

Britain is becoming a modern-day tale of Oliver Twist, with poor children up and down the country saying, “Please sir, can I have some more.” Rather than the golden age Boris Johnson promised, this has become a Victorian England of deprivation. This is a moral travesty and I don’t believe those in power understand this plight.

Guidance is clear

I surely can’t be the only person sick of hearing people complain that Covid guidelines are unclear? I’m no rocket scientist but I have no difficulty understanding them. Those ‘confused’ are making excuses for their non-compliance.
