Virgil van Dijk is a doubt for Liverpool's Fifa Club World Cup final clash with Flamengo, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

The Dutchman has been unable to take part in training since the Reds arrived in Qatar due to illness, and missed Wednesday evening's 2-1 semi-final win over Monterrey as a result.

Jordan Henderson performed well as a makeshift centre-half in his teammate's absence, but it had been hoped that they would be able to restore their influential Dutchman on Saturday.

However, according to Klopp, the European champions must wait and see if they will be able to call on Van Dijk as they bid for world glory this weekend.

"It was an easy decision actually because he couldn’t train," he said.

"Yes, he was yesterday on the [training] pitch for a couple of minutes until the media left [the session] and then, unfortunately, he had to leave as well. Not because of the media, just because he didn’t feel well.

"So yesterday no training was possible, this morning no training possible, so it was an easy decision – he couldn’t play.

"It was difficult for Hendo to deal with, but he did really good.

"We will see, I don’t know how quick he can recover. We will see."
