The Duchess of Sussex implored Americans to get out and vote in the “most important” presidential election of their lifetimes.
Meghan was speaking yesterday —US voter registration day — alongside Prince Harry in a video marking the unveiling of Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.
She said: “We’re just six weeks out from election day and today is national voter registration day. Every four years we’re told the same thing, this is the most important election of our lifetime — but this one is.
"When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard.”
She added: “As we work to reimagine the world around us, let’s challenge ourselves to build communities of compassion.”
In the clip for the 2020 TIME 100 list Harry pointed out that he cannot vote in the November 3 showdown between Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden.
He said: “This election I’m not able to vote in the US. But many of you may not know that I’ve never been able to vote in the UK in my entire life.”
Senior royals are not allowed to vote in British elections. Traditionally, members of the royal family are expected to be politically neutral but Meghan has confirmed she will vote in the US poll.
Harry urged Americans not to be influenced by “online negativity” and “hate speech” when they vote: “When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realise it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and to put ourself in someone else’s shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially.”
