As the football transfer market hits £105 million, we go on a property spending spree

Join us as we go on a fantasy spending spree with the potential world-record football transfer budget of £105  million.
The football transfer market is echoing the super-prime property market this week as the rumours that Real Madrid may be ready to pay a record £105 million for Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale puts the forward at the top of the transfer market.

But Britain's super-prime property market is red-hot, too, says Lawrence Hall of property website Zoopla.co.uk. "As with top footballers, there is a limited supply of super-prime property and on a global scale a healthy amount of potential buyers. This has pushed prices up for some of Britain’s most glamorous and desirable homes. Only the super-wealthy can even contemplate affording them – it goes without saying that £100 million will buy you the very best," he says.

We go house hunting to discover three of Britain's most extravagant homes could be snapped up with an eye-watering budget of about £105-million. The luxurious homes we uncover are a £65  million London crash pad, a £35 million, 14-bedroom weekend estate in Oxfordshire, and a £3 million, 260-acre private island in Scotland, complete with two homes, a helicopter hangar, boathouse, observatory and beaches.

THE "LONDON CRASHPAD"

This five-bedroom apartment at the Candy Brother's iconic One Hyde Park building in Knightsbridge is the only home that occupies an entire floor of the development. At over 9,000sq ft, the apartment is divided into two wings that are connected by a 65-metre hallway; the five bedrooms are in the "City wing", while the living and entertaining spaces are in the "park wing", with magnificent views of Hyde Park and Knightsbridge.

THE WEEKEND COUNTRY ESTATE

This spectacular 1,000-acre property is the perfect country estate for entertaining, with a stunning 12-bedroom, Grade II-listed Georgian house at its centre. Inside are five reception rooms, eight bathrooms and a formal dining room, as well as a staff sitting room, gun room, flower room and games room. Beyond the formal gardens, pool and tennis court are a series of three lakes, a private golf course, stable house, gardener's cottage and woodland.

THE HOLIDAY HOME

If you already own a lavish London crash pad and a sprawling country estate, surely the next thing you need to complete the package is a private coastal retreat. This 260-acre sheltered island on the stunning coastline of Argyll in Lock Craignish, Scotland, is about 100 miles from Glasgow - or 25 minutes if you're used to travelling such distances by chartered helicopter.

The £3-million price tag includes two houses: a four-bedroom house with three bathrooms and a coverted farmhouse offers three further bedrooms. Also included in the deal is an observatory, a boat house, private beaches, a helicopter hangar and moorings.
