Robert Pattinson’s The Batman has become the latest Hollywood blockbuster to have its release delayed, as Warner Bros continue to deal with the impact of coronavirus.

Filming began in Glasgow earlier this year, with the superhero film originally set to arrive in June 2021. Now the studio says it will be released four months later on October 1.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and will see British star Pattinson make his debut as the Dark Knight, starring alongside Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell.

The news is not a huge surprise, with Warner Bros having moved back a number of movies as they cope with the pandemic. Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints Of Newark was set to launch in September this year, but has been moved to March 2021.

Elsewhere, superhero movie Shazam 2 has been pushed back seven months to November 2022, while unusually, The Flash is now aiming for a June 2022 date, a month earlier than originally planned.

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, has been delayed by a month to November 2021. King Richard, a sport drama about the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, will now be released in November 2021, a delay of a year.

They’re the latest films to be affected by the pandemic, following the likes of No Time To Die, Mulan and Top Gun: Maverick.
