Alphonse Areola has left Real Madrid and returned to Paris Saint-Germain after his season-long loan came to an end.

The French goalkeeper joined Los Blancos on loan last summer after Keylor Navas moved to PSG on a permanent deal, but is heading back to the Parc des Princes as Madrid decided not to follow up initial interest in extending the agreement.

"Real Madrid C. F. confirms it has brought Alphonse Areola's loan spell to an end," Los Blancos said on their website on Tuesday.

"The club would like to thank Areola for his dedication, professionalism and exemplary conduct this season and wishes him the best of luck in this new chapter.

"Real Madrid also thanks PSG for the chance to have had Alphonse Areola as part of our squad."

Areola, who made nine appearances for Madrid in 2019-20, is now expected to move to the Premier League after his wife revealed on Instagram last month that the family had purchased a house in London.
