The defence in Donald Trump’s ‘hush money’ trial has claimed in court that witness Stormy Daniels was trying to profit from the case.
Trump has been charged with hiding a payment to former pron star Daniels to keep her quiet after the pair allegedly had a sexual laision.
The former president has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal the payment.
Defence attorney Susan Necheles showed the court in New York tweets that, she argues, prove Stormy Daniels was trying to profit from Trump’s indictment.
Daniels was being cross-examined in her second day on the witness stand.
“Thank you to everyone for your support and love!” one of Daniels’ posts reads. “I have so many messages coming in that I can respond, also don’t want to spill my champagne.”
"The champagne refers to a celebration that Trump was indicted?" Necheles asks.
The court was also shown merchandise from Stormy Daniels’ store.
Necheles claimed that more evidence that Daniels is motivated by money was that she tweeted a link to her store after Donald Trump was indicted.
Some of the merchandise says #TeamStormy. There was also a picture of Daniels on a candle dressed as a saint.
Necheles accuses Daniels of celebrating and making money off Trump’s criminal charges.
However, Daniels equated those money spinners with Trump’s own fundraising.
“Not unlike Mr Trump,” Daniels replied to Trump's lawyer.
Trump has sent a string of fundraising emails asking for money to help him fight his criminal indictments.
Daniels is a key witness over an alleged $130,000 (£104,000) payment made to her before the 2016 election.
