Mr Broccoli vs Piers Morgan: Climate change protester clashes with 'Peas' as he touts vegan diet on Good Morning Britain

A climate change protester dressed as a massive broccoli floret clashed with Piers Morgan as he touted a vegan lifestyle on Good Morning Britain.

The activist dubbed Mr Broccoli, who was arrested last week as part of an Animal Rebellion demonstration in London, appeared on the show on Wednesday morning.

In an unusual clash, hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid both called on Mr Broccoli to explain why he felt people should switch to a plant-based diet.

Mr Broccoli told Reid: "My point is that environmentally speaking we're in incredibly hot water and we do need to transition to a plant-based food system."

To this, Morgan said: "But you don't know why, you don't know the science."

Mr Broccoli said: "I am just a broccoli, at the end of the day."

As the bizarre exchange took another turn, he said he needed to answer a call, taking a banana out of his pocket and holding it to his ear as if it were a phone.

He also referred to Morgan as "peas", rather than Piers, throughout the interview.

His appearance split opinion, with some on social media finding him amusing and others branding him absurd.

One wrote: "Mr Broccoli is the hero we have been waiting for."

While another, questioning his appearance, said: "What is this world coming to?"

Mr Broccoli was arrested on Oxford Street during protests on Sunday.

He wore green face paint, a suit and a floret-style hat and had previously been seen holding a sign reading: "I'm locally sourced and environmentally friendly".

A video posted online showed him being handcuffed by three officers.

He is part of Animal Rebellion, which advocates a plant-based diet to combat climate change.

"To end the climate crisis and achieve justice for animals, we must transition to a plant-based food system," its website says.

The protests took place as Extinction Rebellion activists carried out protests across London.

More than 1,642 people have already been arrested in the protests, part of an "international rebellion" with action taking place in cities around the world.
