Transport for London is to place staff on the Government’s furlough scheme as it contends with an unprecedented cash crisis due to coronavirus.

TfL commissioner Mike Brown today confirmed it would use the scheme after the number of journeys on the Tube fell by 95 per cent and on buses by 85 per cent as a result of the lockdown.

All staff placed on furlough will continue to receive their full salary after TfL said it would top up the 80 per cent payment received from the Government.

The TSSA said staff were expected to be furloughed from next week until May 31 in the first instance.
