Whether you keep finding yourself stranded somewhere, unable to find your way back home via an app, or end up missing important work emails, there are a few things more frustrating than your phone dying unexpectedly.

While the last decades have seen an unprecedented advancement in technology, creating phone batteries with infinite energy has remained a mystery.

Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to make your battery last a little longer.

Here are the tips and tricks Mobiles.co.uk recommends.

Avoid the heat

If your phone is left in a hot spot, like a human it overheats and can’t handle it.

Try to avoid leaving your mobile near radiators, out in the sun or in a hot car, as the heat can damage the battery and cause it to drain more quickly.

Dim the brightness

Turn down the brightness on your phone, or better yet turn it on to ‘power saving’ mode.

Not only does this save battery, but it also means you blind fewer bystanders with your screen.

Set a timer for your screenlock

Social media apps tend to keep our phones unlocked even if we have accidentally left a video playing and haven't touched our screens in ages.

The best way to prevent your phone from self-sabotaging like this is by setting up the timeout option on your phone.

By programming your screen to automatically lock after a certain amount of time you can save precious phone juice.

Prioritise

Not only does this preserve the battery life of your phone, but it also is an effective way to battle FOMO.

Instead of spending hours looking at the picture that your friends just uploaded while you are at work, opt to only receive notifications from apps that are absolutely vital. This saves power and increases productivity. It’s a win-win.

Streaming struggle

Streaming is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to draining your battery.

Yes, we all want to know who got kicked off Bake Off this week, but if you stream the episode on your way to work, your battery will be dead by 5 p.m.

Instead, download TV shows, podcasts and music onto your phone before you leave the house and be safe in the knowledge that you can listen to your music all the way home.

Wi-Fi is your friend

The only thing worse than using up all your battery is using up all your data. Save both by connecting to WiFi hotspots. Data eats up more power than WiFi and drains your precious monthly allowance.

If you find yourself somewhere with no WiFi, turn off your WiFi immediately. The actual process of your phone searching for WiFi networks uses up battery.

Get rid of the background noise

A lot of apps run in the background and drain phone power.

If you’re not using an app, ditch it. This will save space and battery.

Bluetooth, location services and mobile data also drain your phone's battery.

If things get really bad, put your phone into ‘power saving ‘mode, but bear in mind that this will limit certain functions on your phone.

If, after trying out these nifty battery-saving hacks your phone still dies, it might be time to consider replacing your battery or getting a new phone altogether.
