Property tycoon Christian Candy has won a long-running planning battle to turn part of the road outside his £200 million mansion into a private garden.

Plans for the 200ft “historic garden”, based on a design by Regency architect John Nash, were blocked last September by Camden councillors after objections from Regent’s Park neighbours.

The decision has been overturned after a visit by the Government’s planning inspectorate in March.

It frees Mr Candy to build the garden on a private road he bought from the Crown Estate for £3 million in 2014.

The next year, Mr Candy bought seven Grade I Nash houses to knock them through to create a 15-bed mansion.
