The husband of Formula One heiress Tamara Ecclestone has appeared in court accused of assisting an offender.

Jay Rutland, 35, of Kensington, west London, appeared at a brief hearing at Thames Magistrates' Court and spoke only to confirm his name and address.

The property developer, wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt and dark grey tie, did not enter a plea.

He was charged with the offence, which dates back to 2010, in February this year.
