A fund to raise money for a 101-year-old mugging victim has smashed its target within hours of being set up.
Pensioner Alexteen Roberts, believed to be London’s oldest mugging victim, was returning home from a prayer meeting when she was shoved to the ground in a robbery.
Her attacker took her handbag, containing £300 in cash, in the mugging outside her Tottenham home.
Her grandson gave chase, but the mugger, who had tried to con Mrs Roberts into unnecessary electrical work before snatching her bag, managed to escape.
After news of the callous attack spread, a community fundraising page was set up, with the aim of raising £300 to replace the stolen cash.
A plea on the fundraising site reads: "It would be wonderul if we could all come together as a community and raise enough to replace the amount which was so cruely stolen from her.
"If you can spare £1 and pass on this campaign to others, we can do it!"
In just a matter of hours, the page had reached £455, with donations still pouring in.
After hearing about the appeal, Mrs Roberts' great-granddaughter said: "I think that's a great idea, I think she'll definitely be pleased."
