Dog had left eye removed after being ‘dragged along road by van’ in Lambeth hit-and-run

A dog suffered a serious head injury and needed surgery to remove her left eye after she was hit by a van in south London, police have said.

The owner of Angel, a nine-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was walking her along Croxted Road, Lambeth, just after 11pm on New Year’s Eve when the dog was struck by the vehicle.

The van dragged the defenceless pup around 50 metres along the road before driving off in the direction of Norwood Road, the Metropolitan Police reported.

Both Angel and her owner were wearing hi-viz jackets and the dog was being kept on a lead, the force added.

Detectives are appealing to any witnesses or anyone who may have footage of the incident to contact 101 quoting the reference CAD 8129/31DEC20.
