Whether you're looking for a holiday home for weekends away or wanting to take the plunge and relocate for good, waterfront properties are popular choices.
From views of enclosed coastal estuaries to family homes with running moorings for small boats, it's not just seaside homes offering a fix of the water.
Rupert Lawson Johnston, head of Strutt & Parker Chichester, says: "Most in demand are pastel-coloured New England-style, weather-boarded properties, pretty period cottages and even the odd thatch."
"The market remains sensitive and although we have had some terrific sales already in 2016 and a swollen database of spring buyers, it won’t tolerate the over-ambitious estate agent."
In a message to sellers, he adds: "Do your research, find out who is the most effective agent at your level and listen to their advice, if the price is bang on, the viewings will come and the market will naturally dictate the value.”
