Designer destination:Ham Yard Hotel, Soho

Finding three quarters of an acre of land to develop in Soho is an impressive feat. Using that land to create a u-shaped 91-room hotel centered around a courtyard space that is the anthithesis of Soho's chaos is a masterstroke.

Opened in June this year, Firmdale's latest London hotel has 24 residential apartments, 91 hotel rooms, a restaurant, three bars, a gym and 13 shops. But that's not all. Guests can retreat to an impressive rooftop garden terrace; relax in the orangery, drawing room or private library; and unwind in the hotel's private theatre or spa. There's even an original 1950's Texan bowling alley.

Hidden design gem
The hands of an incredible135-dial digital clock are synchronised to display the time and beautiful geometric shapes. You'll find it on the wall opposite the lifts next to the reception.

Insider tip
When staying, request breakfast on the hidden rooftop terrace - this leafy, sky-high garden has sweeping views across London.
